8vo. Pp xxvi + 286. Original publisher's maroon cloth, spine lettered gilt with original decorative dust-wrapper, archival repairs, some loss at head of spine. First edition. Very scarce with dust-wrapper. A great economist's writings on the causes and effects of the crash. Unfortunately he never lived down that inglorious comment on 15 October that stock prices were on, "what looks like a permanently high plateau", and declared that he expected to see "the stock market a good deal higher than it is to-day within a few months". A week later he described the fall in stocks as "the shaking out of the lunatic fringe". His own beliefs cost him dear as his personal fortune was swept aside in the maelstrom, and subsequent depression.
