Bumper cash withdrawals expected this Christmas

09 December 2005
Amid predictions that UK shoppers will rely on credit cards to pay for festivities this year, a new report has predicted a record amount of cash will be withdrawn from ATMs around the country in December.

ATM provider Link says, according to its forecast, that Brits will withdraw £16.5 billion in cash in the run-up to Christmas.

Card scheme director at Link, Edwin Latter, said: "Christmas is always the busiest time of the year for cash withdrawals and this year looks no exception.

"On the busiest shopping days, we expect over one million Link transactions per hour, with around half a million pounds dispensed per minute."

New research from debt solutions company One Advice revealed yesterday that three million Brits owe over £10,000 each in credit cards and loans.
