Fair Investment Company staff take on Ben Nevis to raise £30k for charity

08 September 2010 / by Rachel Mason

Staff from Fair Investment Company will climb Ben Nevis on September 18 to raise money for charity.

Fifteen employees from the Bristol based firm will scale the highest mountain in the British Isles in the hope of raising £30,000 which will be split between Bethany Children’s Trust, a charity which helps children at risk all around the world, and micro finance charity, Five Talents.

Known as the ‘Mountain of Heaven', Ben Nevis is located at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands and measures 4,406 ft above sea level.

As well as climbing a massive 1,344ft, the volunteers may also have to deal with treacherous conditions – Ben Nevis is hit by 261 full gales a year, its average temperature is just -1 and it has annual rainfall of 4,350 mm.

But undeterred, the climbers are looking forward to the challenge, and have already had a few practice walks, including a 14km trek over the Brecon Beacons earlier this year.

"We are really looking forward to taking on this challenge and raising funds for charity at the same time," said George Ladds, business development manager and organiser of the trip.

"Giving to charity has always been part of Fair Investment Company's ethos - as well as giving 10 per cent of profit to charity, the company also runs fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for various good causes.

"Creating good working relationships through teambuilding exercises and social events is also important here, so, as it is the company's 10th anniversary, we wanted to be able to do something really special that combined the two.

"Not only are we on track for one of our best fund raising results to date yet, but the preparation for this event has really brought the company together."
