HSBC Passport account growing in popularity

29 September 2006
The specialist current account from HSBC, Passport, is steadily increasing its customer base, according to the high street giant.

HSBC says that more than 7,500 accounts have been opened since the product was first launched three months ago.

The Passport account is proving particularly popular among Polish immigrants, the statistics showed, as a quarter (25 per cent) of all new accounts opened had been from Poles living in the UK, followed by Australians (six per cent).

Joe Garner, head of UK personal financial services at HSBC, said that the positive response from consumers had "exceeded our expectations".

"Traditionally, opening a bank account has been one of the most trying aspects of setting up home for the first time in the UK. Passport is a relocation service that provides the essentials to make the move as smooth and straightforward as possible."

The Passport account is available from any of HSBC's 1,500 branches across the UK and can also be applied for online or over the telephone, even before reaching the country.
