HSBC "hardware failure" hits consumers

05 January 2005
HSBC and first direct customers were hit by a computer hardware failure on Monday.

All of the bank's customer channels were affected, from ATM machines to customer services.

The problem is now resolved however.

"All the channels are now up and running," an HSBC spokesperson told MyFinances.co.uk.

The problems were traced to a "hardware failure".

"Problems started around midday yesterday, and services have been progressively recovered since then," the spokesperson said.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result," the bank added.
