HSBC has invested £1.8 million in a new purpose-built commercial banking centre, which opened in Leicester this week.

The leading high street banking corporation officially launched its new facility at Grove Park in Leicester, saying the development underscored its commitment to the Midlands city.

Featuring a 100-person conference room, meeting rooms and over-the-counter banking services, the new commercial centre is described by HSBC's area director Alan Jarman as a "state-of-the-art facility".

"HSBC has listened and responded to the needs of the Leicester business community, including the many new local businesses we helped get started this year," Mr Jarman commented.

"Our aim is to make this the most customer friendly and successful commercial centre in the Leicester area. Additional banking facilities will also be available with dedicated staff on hand so that personal customers can make good use of the centre as well."

The Leicester development is one of 80 similar projects being undertaken by HSBC nationwide. The planned programme is expected to take place over the next 18 months at a total cost of nearly £60 million.
