HSBC has found that its internet banking customers like to log on to check their finances late at night, in keeping with Britain's growing 24-hour culture.
HSBC's business banking customers were found to log on almost half a million times a night between 11pm and 6am to check on their finances.
"More than 120 new customers apply for an HSBC business account online every week and nine out of ten small businesses, the backbone of the UK economy, have internet access," said Simon Wainwright, head of business banking at HSBC
"Businesses that bank online can respond quickly to customer demand, move quickly to capitalise on market opportunities and keep direct control of their cash flow," he added.
HSBC found that the most popular time for logging on after dark was between 11pm and midnight, while the least log-ins were found between 3am and 4am.
The bank has recently seen a 500 per cent increase in online transactions, bringing it up to 10.6 million between 2003 and 2004.
