Sainsbury's: Best financial buys are online

More UK consumers are going online in an attempt to get the best deals for financial products, says Sainsbury's Bank.

The bank's website has seen a 73 per cent increase in the last year in people surfing its site looking for deals on insurance and other financial products.

Sainsbury's says during the same period almost five million people filled in an application form for various financial products.

Kevin Barrett, director of e-commerce at Sainsbury’s Bank, said: "The general acceptance of buying goods or services online means that the web is now a mainstream and vital channel for businesses to interact with and sell to customers.

"Websites act as a 'shop front' and are increasingly the customers’ primary contact with a brand."

Research by GfK Financial says online applications for financial products have increased by 25 per cent, meaning one million more people are applying online.
