Mobile network 3 has seized the initiative in the controversy over European mobile roaming charges by highlighting the benefits of its '3 Like Home' package, introduced last month.
The package charges 3 customers abroad as if they were on their home network, receiving calls and texts free of charge and using their talk and text bundles.
But the deal applies only when customers are using other networks within the 3 Group and is confined to just a few countries, 3 admitted.
Customers are currently covered for 'Like Home' roaming when they are in Ireland, Italy, Austria, Australia, Hong Kong, Sweden or Denmark.
"We just regret that the charges levied by our roaming partners mean we can only offer this pricing model in certain countries," the mobile provider said in a statement.
It downplayed the "small" cuts announced by Vodafone this week.
Meanwhile, the European Commission is reported to be considering a 30p cap on roaming charges within European Union countries, effective from this summer. To find out more about the 3 Network, click here.
