Many Brits are failing to shop around for better broadband deals with 50 per cent of internet users not switching broadband providers in the last four years.
Research has found that many internet users could now be paying too much for their connection on outdated tariffs.
The data published by consumerchoices.co.uk, shows that the average cost of broadband has fallen by at least 37 per cent while average broadband speeds have increased by at least 700 per cent.
While many UK consumers have made strides to reduce the cost of their bills, many have forgotten to check the cost of their broadband provider.
Reacting to this news, Michael Phillips, product director of consumerchoices.co.uk, said: “These results are very disappointing as there is a fantastic selection of ISPs and packages available to consumers.
“Major providers continue to battle it out for market share and in so doing drive through cost savings and service improvements.”
Mr Phillips questions why many Brits had shopped around to get better deals for their gas and electric but did not do the same for their internet provider.
He added, “I would urge these consumers to shop around for a better deal using an Ofcom accredited comparison service to find out what is available in their area.”
