American Express offers travel insurance solution

American Express Travel Insurance is offering customers a permanent solution to the problem of lost luggage by giving every new customer hi-tech luggage labels.

Customers taking out an annual travel policy will receive a set of i-Trak luggage labels which carry a personal barcode.

In event that luggage is lost, whoever finds the luggage can contact the owner by email, text or the airline's own Telex system.

Marketing Manager at American Express Travel Insurance, Joanne Field, said: "Losing luggage is more than a nuisance and we are delighted to be able to offer a modern, innovative solution.

"However luggage is not declared missing until at least 21 days has elapsed and some airlines take considerably longer.

"American Express designed i-Trak, with the aim to reunited passengers with their luggage quickly and easily."

Lost luggage is one of the insurance broker's top three claims, costing on average £580.

Customers will be registered for free with the service for a year.

A recent survey by American Express found that a third of people were considering purchasing a holiday home, while millions already own a second home abroad.

France and Spain came top of the wishlist for UK property buyers.
