American Express reveals adventurous Brits take more trips

Britons are becoming ever more adventurous, taking advantage of cheap travel deals to plan more and more trips in the UK and abroad, according to American Express Travel Insurance.

The insurer's customer survey found that the number of domestic and international trips planned by its 10,000 British customers is set to increase by 7.5 per cent this year.

Travelling within the UK is still popular, with domestic holidays of five days or more expected to rise by five per cent, and UK business trips to increase by 14 per cent.

However, American Express found a distinct taste for the exotic, with international leisure trips predicted to show an eight per cent increase.

"Travel is more accessible and fluid than it has ever been," comments Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Insurance Services.

"Consumers are just as likely to pop over to New York for the weekend to take advantage of the strong pound's buying power as they are to jet off to Dublin for lunch travelling with a discount airline ticket."

American Express advises travellers planning multiple trips to opt for annual travel insurance cover, and to shop around for the best deal.
