Contents insurance 'essential' for pricey jewellery

09 February 2006
Romantics across Britain are being urged to insure their expensive jewellery in the run up to Valentine's Day.

The price comparison website Insuresupermarket is specifically warning those who plan to take their valuables away for a romantic weekend to ensure their cover is adequate.

Richard Masons, director at the website, said that those planning on proposing abroad were especially at risk.

"Make sure the engagement ring is covered on your home and contents insurance and don't rely on travel insurance or jewellers' insurance as they won't provide enough cover."

Mr Mason went on to say that for those regularly taking expensive jewellery from the home it could be a good idea to add personal possessions cover to their contents insurance policy.

"It's important to shop around for this cover as our research shows the cost
can vary," concluded Mr Mason.
