HSBC: homeowners need adequate insurance

20 October 2005
HSBC is offering a home insurance discount to homeowners in light of research which revealed that people do not have sufficient insurance to protect their homes against the coming winter weather.

A survey by the bank found that one in eight households do not have adequate home insurance after experts have predicted the next few months will be one of the coldest winters in ten years.

HSBC is offering a 12.5 per cent discount on all new applications received before 30th December 2005.

"Property damage can be devastating and can affect more than just our home. We should not be complacent when it comes to having adequate protection for our home and its possessions," said Stephen Young, head of general insurance at HSBC.

The insurance provider is also offering a free 24-hour helpline to provide policy-holders with help and advice in an emergency.

Current insurance policies from HSBC offer cover from £15,000 for contents and £45,000 for buildings.
