Lloyds TSB Insurance has taken steps to help homeowners hit by flooding and is giving comprehensive advice on how to make insurance claims after the floods.
Lloyds customers will have staff on the ground in Carlisle to monitor levels of damage and will have additional staff manning phone lines.
Same day cash payments will be made to customers who have suffered serious loss and require emergency accommodation and supplies.
A spokesperson for Lloyds said: "With UK homeowners facing the harsh realties of flood damage and with further news from the Environment Agency that people living in flood risk areas are failing to protect themselves, it is vital that they take precautionary measures to protect themselves and their homes."
The insurance provider advises that customers make sure they know what their insurance policy covers, for example, whether or not they are eligible for temporary accommodation or repairs.
Lloyds also advises on keeping any receipts for repairs to make it easy to claim later on.
According to the Environment Agency, a third of people in flood risk areas have not checked their policies to see if they are covered or not in the event of a flood.To read more about Home Insurance, click here.
