Nationwide launches over-65s travel insurance

Over-65 holidaymakers worried about finding travel insurance need look no further than Nationwide's new travel insurance policy.

The building society's new over-65s travel insurance plan gives cover for holidays in the UK and Europe and covers hospital expenses up to £10 million.

Nationwide is re-launching the policy because it says it has realised that it is very "difficult" for older holidaymakers to obtain comprehensive travel insurance.

Nationwide's executive director, Stuart Bernau, said: "In recent years it has become increasingly difficult for the 65s and over to arrange affordable annual travel insurance.

"This is a very important group of customers for Nationwide and we are delighted to be able to offer a product that meets their needs."

The cover also offers £25,000 for death through personal accident benefit and covers holidays of up to 31 days in Europe.

A survey by the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) found up to 9.5 million of the UK's over-65s were finding it increasingly difficult to find travel insurance.

Those who did find insurance found they were forced to pay over-the-odds for a comprehensive policy.

BIBA estimates that over-65s could be turned down for 30 of the 140 travel insurance policies on offer.
