Pet owners now have even more choice when it comes to choosing pet insurance as online insurer is now offering policies for pets.

The insurance provider has launched two new pet products designed to make sure owners are not left with huge bills in the event of an accident. Esure Pet Insurance and esure Pet Plus offer cover of £2,500 and £6,500 respectively for veterinary care per condition and come with a free squeaky toy.

A spokesperson for said: "When it comes to buying pet insurance - their equivalent of private health insurance - it's so important to drill down into the detail of the product as well as look at value for money.

"Pet policies differ considerably so it's almost impossible to compare like for like.

"Check the small print to see what you are covered for and how easy it is to make a claim."

Customers whose pets are unlucky enough to suffer an accident over the festive period can also call's 24-hour pet health and wellbeing line for expert advice.

Research by the insurance provider revealed only four per cent of owners will buy insurance for their pets this Christmas while over two-thirds will buy presents instead.
