Swiftcover adds pets to portfolio

03 November 2006
Insurance provider, the UK's first wholly-online insurer, has added pet cover to its range of products.

The new offering has been introduced in conjunction with Thornside, a company specialising in insurance products for domesticated animals, and will be available from the internet insurer's website.

According to the company, only one in seven Britons has pet cover, despite the fact that owners spend around £3.5 billion each year on associated expenses. The average vet bill, says, is approximately £230.

Andrew Blowers, the company chief executive, commented: "We're a nation that's renowned for our love of our pets and having adequate cover in place to protect against any unforeseen circumstances is absolutely vital for responsible pet owners.

"However, the rising annual costs of looking after a pet can deter many people from taking out pet insurance.'s new pet cover premiums should help drive down these costs for pet owners."
