Travel insurance leaving millions exposed, finds American Express

22 December 2004
Millions of holiday bargain hunters are left exposed by the maximum level on their travel insurance, American Express has said.

Many travellers carry items with them on holiday that are worth more than the maximum single item limit.

In fact 48 per cent of holidaymakers travel with items worth more than largest payout for a single item on a standard travel insurance policy, £250.

Joanne Field, American Express Travel Insurance marketing manager, commented: "Travellers should think about what they are packing and buying when abroad. No matter how great the exchange rate, nothing will be a bargain if it gets lost or stolen and you are not covered by insurance at all or because the items are over the policy's single item limit.

"Travellers really do need to bear this in mind when looking for the right insurance policy,” she added.
