All's quiet on the wedding bells front, according to wedding insurance provider Ecclesiastical, which has revealed that the first two months of the year are the least popular for getting hitched.
Just 1.7 per cent of weddings take place in January, the insurer's figures show, and 2010 is proving to be no different – virtually a wedding-free zone.
The most popular months are in the summer, while February, November, March and December follow January for being the least popular, based on Eclesiastical's online wedding insurance sales for 2009 and 2010.
But, Ecclesiastical's personal lines manager, Dave Simms, argues that it is not necessarily just a case of the bad weather making January the least popular month.
"December, which can be equally chilly, is almost three times more popular," he points out, and thinks that finances play a bigger role in deciding when to get married than the weather:
"Post-Christmas gloom may be a factor; finance may be another. For many people, January can be one of the toughest months to budget for after the expense of Christmas and New Year."
