Barclay’s Stockbrokers' investors have been focusing on emerging markets as an alternative to UK investments.
In a recent survey half of Barclays' clients admitted that they had found the best returns in emerging markets, such as Asia and South America, rather than investments closer to home.
And the same 50 per cent said that they would be most likely to continue to back emerging markets for the rest of the year.
However, the recent poll also found that almost a third of investors think the UK is best-placed to deliver positive returns, and 14 per cent favour the US. Of those surveyed only five per cent believe that Europe will be the highest performer for the rest of the year.
Barbara-Ann King, head of investments at Barclays Stockbrokers, said: "Investors have consistently demonstrated confidence in emerging markets this year and we expect this to continue into the second half of 2010. Investors do not seem to be deterred by volatility and continue to look far and wide in order to achieve their desired investment goals."
