Halifax reveals Welsh daffodils top share profits

24 May 2005
Investors in Wales and the West enjoy the greatest success when it comes to making money on their share portfolios, Halifax Share Dealing has revealed.

As part of a regular monthly survey into the attitudes of investors to FTSE 100 performance, Halifax found that 88 per cent of those who invested in Wales and the west of England saw their shares rise in value.

The east of England was the second-best place to invest, Halifax found - three-quarters of those who invested in enterprises in that area reported a profit.

"Though Wales and the West top the bill for the region most likely to report a profit from their share investments, investors from every part of the country reported strong portfolio performance," said Sue Concannon, managing director of Halifax Share Dealing.

"This is very encouraging to see, especially considering the modest performance of the FTSE over the last few weeks."

The survey of 700 investors also revealed that the most popular industry for investment was Financial Industries, attracting 66 per cent of investors. Energy was the least popular sector, proving tempting for just eight per cent.
