Investors 'looking east' for options

07 February 2008 / by None
Eastern markets continued to be a popular choice for investors last year, with the trend looking likely to continue into the Chinese Year of the Rat, say experts.

TD Waterhouse has noted that Gartmore's China Opportunities fund was the most popular fund for their investors last year and already accounts for some 19 per cent of funds bought and sold in the last month.

Commenting on the trend, Angus Rigby, chief executive officer at TD Waterhouse, comments: "As we count down to this summer's Beijing Olympics and according to our recent investor fund volumes, TD Waterhouse customers are increasingly looking east for their investment options."

The group also notes that gold prices reaching record levels in January have resulted in Blackrock's ML Gold & General Account also being very popular, accounting for around 32 per cent of funds purchased by their investors during the month.

TD Waterhouse offers online trading in the full range of asset classes available to retail investors.
