Direct Line considers pet insurance review

07 February 2005
Insurance group Direct Line is to review its pet insurance policies following recent research.

A study commissioned by Direct Line found that one third of dog owners would be prepared to go to court to fight for custody of their pet.

It seems dogs are well and truly members of the family with respondents also saying that they would pay-off an ex-partner to keep their four-legged friend.

"Splitting up with a partner is traumatic enough, but losing custody of a pet makes the break even harder to deal with," said Direct Line manager Chris Price.

"With these findings in mind, we're reviewing the legal liability in our insurance policy for dog owners to see if it needs to include pet custody battles."
