HSBC tempts Spanish homebuyers with mortgage deal

27 June 2007
Buying a mortgage for your Spanish property is to become easier courtesy of HSBC's partnership with Spanish mortgage lender Solbank.

The Spanish bank will provide local mortgage and banking services to UK customers, building on its existing customer base, which is 60 per cent British.

The account offer includes a mortgage arrangement fee of up to one per cent, a variable mortgage interest rate set at one per cent above EURIBOR, and free credit and debit card use.

The HSBC-Solbank service will be operated by multilingual agents who can serve the financial needs of UK customers without Spanish at their command.

Users of the HSBC-Solbank account will also have free access to Spanish ATMs, which can charge customers with a UK bank account over the odds.

This month, a survey from Banco Halifax Hispania showed that buying property in Spain was not just a dream for golden oldies, with the prospect of a place in the Spanish sun most popular among 35 to 44-year-olds.
