ICAEW appeals to Chancellor for 'properly targeted tax legislation'
15 March 2004
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) has made a submission to the Chancellor prior to this week's budget, which calls for 'properly targeted anti-avoidance legislation' in response to many of the current proposals which, it claims, 'catch innocent tax payers'.
Mark Lee, its Chairman said: 'We are increasingly concerned about the number of proposals for change which the government is suggesting without proper consultation and consideration of the wider ramifications. There needs to be full and open consultation and a considered timetable for implementation to provide taxpayers with the opportunity to understand their obligations.'
