Bank Compensation

bank compensationBank Compensation

Bank compensation is the money that many banks are paying their customers as a result of unfair fees that they have been charged for things like:

  • Going over an overdraft limit
  • Bounced cheques
  • Going over a credit card limit
  • Not paying credit card bills on time

When customers do any of the above, the bank is entitled to charge the customer the administrative cost of dealing with the breach of contract – i.e. sending a letter out to inform the customer that they have exceeded their overdraft limit. But many banks have been charging over the odds - up to £39 for a bounced cheque and £28 for each day an account was over its agreed overdraft limit.
