Beware Credit Repair Agencies

Beware Credit Repair AgenciesThey're only after your cash...

If you have a poor credit rating and are wondering how to repair it, then you should beware companies that claim to be able to do this for you in return for a fee. Some are illegal, and encourage you to claim that you are not guilty of certain things which have been detrimental to your credit rating, such as County Court Judgements (CCJs). They will get this removed from your credit report and tell you to apply for credit quickly before the order gets reissued and it pops back up on your credit history.

There are also legal companies that should also be avoided, because they charge you for carrying out actions to repair your credit status which you can do yourself for free. If you are in debt, they will offer to negotiate with your lenders on your behalf after a CCJ has been served. If you offer the lenders a settlement – which need not necessarily be for the full amount of your debts – then you could request, as a condition of your payment, that this CCJ be wiped off your credit status.

However, there is no point paying a company to do this, as any of the free debt counselling agencies, such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, will do this for free.
