Buildings and Contents Insurance

Buildings and contents insurance is important because it covers the cost of repairs to your home if it is damaged by natural disaster, an accident or a break-in, and pays for your belongings to be replaced if they are stolen or damaged.

Buildings and contents insurance policies vary between providers, it can include the following:

  • The house itself – building, structure, permanent fixtures, walls, etc.
  • Personal possessions kept in the home
  • Personal possessions kept in outbuildings i.e. shed or garage
  • Non permanent household fittings such a carpets and curtains
  • Freezer contents

Some polices do not include high value, high risk items like PCs, cameras and mobile phones, so you may have to get a separate policy. Be sure to check the details of what is and isn’t covered and give your insurance company an up to date value of your home’s contents adding any major purchases such as a new TV or bike to the policy.
