If you are looking to make an investment in an ISA to protect your wealth from tax, it can be worthwhile to compare ISA rates in order to find the best one for your needs. The table below shows a selection of current UK ISAs:

When looking to compare ISA rates, keep the following factors in mind:

  • Fixed-rate ISAs provide a set interest rate for a defined time period.  These can be beneficial because you know up-front how much interest you will make on the investment and you are protected from rate decreases, but equally should interest rates increase, you will not benefit.
  • Tracker ISAs follow the base interest rate, so that you will benefit if the rate rises but will lose out on potential interest if the rate drops.

You should also keep an eye on other aspects of the ISA as well as just the interest rate when making comparisons.  Some ISAs levy charges on withdrawals and transfers, require minimum deposits or have running fees, which can all affect the competitiveness of the ISA compared to your other options.

Investment ISAs are designed as medium to long term investments, for example at least five years.
The value of your investment and the level of any income received from it can fall as well as rise and is not guaranteed and you may not get back the amount of your original investment.
The tax efficiency of ISAs is based on current tax law and there is no guarantee that tax rules will stay the same in the future.
If you choose an index-tracking trust which invests overseas, exchange rate variations may cause the value of your investment to increase or decrease.
If you unsure what Investment ISA plan is  right for you speak to an independent investment adviser.
