45% of consumers have 'never considered' energy switch
29/01/2008

Almost half of UK consumers have never considered switching their energy provider despite the considerable savings that can be made, according to uSwitch.
The group has urged customers to look at "the entire market place" when considering making a change to energy supplier, with the same applying to insurance or personal finance provider.
Tim Wolfenden, head of home services for uSwitch, feels that many consumers neglect making such a switch as they feel it involves unnecessary complications.
He commented: "It seems like they believe it's a hassle to switch. They're fearful that pipes will be removed and meters will be removed - all of which is completely untrue - (and) that every supplier is the same and that there's no difference in price. So (they think) 'what's the benefit in switching?'"
Mr Wolfenden added that even those who have switched may have simply been persuaded by sales pitches rather than comparing the entire market place.
uSwitch offers free, impartial online and phone based advice about switching service that helps customers compare prices on a range of services including gas, electricity, home phone, broadband providers and personal finance products.
