Fixed rate bond holders face significant falls...

Bond holders continue to face significant falls in the level of returns on offer. EXAMPLE: bond holders with a maturing five year fixed rate paying 4.60% per year are now looking at around 2.01%, a reduction of almost 56%. On a lump sum of £50,000, this is a fall from £2,300 per year to just £1,005. For fixed rate savers prepared to accept putting some of their capital at risk in the hunt for higher returns, the Enhanced Income Plan from Investec Bank is our best selling fixed income plan.

Fixed rate bonds still a popular choice...

Despite this low interest rate environment, fixed rate bonds are still a popular choice and continue to play an important role for many savers.  With interest rates looking set to continue at their record lows for some time, and whilst top instant access accounts only offer around 1.0% AER, if you can tie up your money for at least 12 months, why not fix at a higher rate?
