Term assurance
Many armed forces personnel choose life insurance polices that last for a fixed period of time, usually the length of their service. These types of policies are called term assurance policies and can be useful because a number of aspects can be personalised:
- The amount of cover provided can be set to match the size of a family or its commitments
- The way the family receive the payment: either in one lump sum or in regular instalments
- Most policies can be extended once the initial period expires
The fact that there is a certain amount of risk involved, and because armed forces personnel can be quickly deployed and re-deployed means that some insurance companies will charge higher premiums due to a perception of high risk.
However, there are a number of companies that specifically offer life insurance for armed services personnel which is designed to be easily obtainable and affordable subject to status. Since many service men and women have young families, the importance of getting the right life insurance policy cannot be understated.
