Overdraft Charges
Overdraft Charges
Get Your Money Back
Many people are now claiming back overdraft charges, as well as those implemented for bounced cheques and failed direct debits, because they have been deemed unfair and unlawful by the Office of Fair Trading. This is due to them being incongruent with the actual costs incurred by the banks for such eventualities. To claim your overdraft charges back, and any you were charged for other breeches of your account’s terms and conditions, you can either:
- Go through an intermediary company that will do all the work and claim them back on your behalf; such companies will also give you advice and represent you if it goes to court.
- Write to your bank and request a list of the charges, then write again asking that they be refunded. If this fails, inform them that you are willing to take the case to a small claims court.
Using a company can be the quickest, easiest and most successful option, as they have agreements with the banks, enabling them to fast-track your claim and increase the likelihood of successfully getting back your overdraft charges.
