If, for example, the owner of a dog or similarly dependant animal were to become ill or hurt in an accident that required immediate treatment in hospital, the animal could be left to fend for itself for an unacceptable amount of time. If a pet insurance policy that includes boarding fees is taken out, it may be possible to leave your pet in the hands of trained professionals so that you needn’t worry.
Paying for this sort of treatment on a one off can often be prohibitively expensive, but these costs may be covered by your insurance if an appropriate policy has been taken out. In order for your pet to be eligible for this sort of treatment, you will usually have to meet certain terms and conditions depending on the pet insurance quote you are provided. The following are some examples:
- The insurer’s policy may stipulate that they will choose the type of accommodation the pet will stay at, usually at a specially licensed kennel
- The owner may have to demonstrate that they qualify for this accommodation, usually by proving how long they have been in hospital for a minimum period before payments will begin
- The owner may also have to prove the extent of their injury or illness and the insurer may contact the hospital to confirm this
