Southern Electric was originally part of the Southern Electricity Board formed in 1948 following the deregulation of the electricity companies across the UK. 1998 saw Southern Electric merge with Scottish Electricity, Scottish Hydro Electric to be renamed as Scottish and Southern Energy. Currently, Southern Electric supplies gas and electricity in England via Southern Electric Power Distribution PLC and is the principal distributor of electricity in the South of England.  As well as the standard gas and electricity tariffs, there are a number of others to choose from, including:

  • energyplus Airmiles: Earn airmiles miles when you join and every quarter.
  • energyplus Argos: Earn points for discounts in Argos and Homebase.
  • energyplus Pulse: Join and Southern Electric will donate £10 (£5 per fuel) to the British Heart Foundation.
  • Power 2: Every unit of electricity you use is matched with a unit of cleaner, greener hydro-electricity to the national grid. And for dual fuel customers, trees are planted each year.
  • RSPB Energy: All the electricity you use is matched with electricity generated from 100% renewable sources, and donations are made when you join and annually, to the RSPB.
