In order to become a stock broker, you must find a brokerage firm before taking the General Securities Registered Representative Examination. This is the license you need before you can start trading on behalf of clients.  There are several stock broker courses aimed at widening your knowledge of the sector. A stock broker course will typically run for a couple of days. The London Stock Exchange can recommend a stock broker course for most areas of the industry. People who may consider taking a stock broker course include:

  • Heads of finance and their teams for smaller listed companies or unlisted entities, AIM quoted companies and subsidiaries of listed companies
  • Financial analysts
  • Auditors of smaller companies

But you don't need to go on a stock broker course to start share dealing; just get a share dealing account. For a quick and easy way to compare share dealing accounts use our FREE comparison table to check prices and services for the account that suits you best.

Please remember the value of your investments and the income from them can go down as well as up. You may not get back the full amount you have invested. If you're in any doubt whether to buy or sell shares, you should consult an appropriate Financial Adviser.
