Student Accommodation Costs
Student Accommodation Costs
It has been estimated that the average student accommodation costs £2,215 per year, and £3,085 per year if you study in London, potentially making it the most expensive part of your university career. 80% of students move away from home to attend university and usually live in university-owned halls of residence for the first year before moving into privately owned, rented accommodation.

Private accommodation is usually more expensive, because landlords often require that students take out a 12 month lease, which means you could be paying for a room or house you are not living in, if you move at the end of the academic year, or during the summer months before you move in.
The remaining 20% of students live at home during university, which can save money on rent, home insruance and utility bills. However, these students should consider the other costs that this will incur, such as travel expenses.
