Most insurance companies provide the means to arrange a temporary policy online and the cover will be near instant, so you can quickly get some peace of mind. Most policies can be modified to suit your needs, in this case specifying that the cover will be needed for two or three days.
With most standards polices your no claims bonus will be affected by naming another driver. This is not the case for temporary policies, and your bonus will often not be affected even you are involved in an accident.
The Cost
Temporary car insurance for the weekend is obviously subject to much higher daily rates than a standard policy, but due to the short period of time it is needed the savings are usually substantial.
The average cost is around £10 a day, although this will be affected by your age, your car and the amount of excess you are willing to pay.
