Unfair Bank Fees
Unfair Bank Fees
In April 2006, the OFT released the results of its investigation into unfair bank fees, stating that default charges have generally been “set at a significantly higher level that is legally fair" and stating that bank charges should "only be used to recover certain limited administration costs".
Many banks had been charging customers up to £35 for breaking the terms of their account contract, e.g. exceeding an overdraft limit or a bounced cheque, but these sorts of fees have now been defined as unfair bank fees.
Some people are taking on the banks themselves, but most are turning to specialist companies to claim back their unfair bank fees on their behalf.
