“Today’s ruling which found in favour of the Office of Fair Trading is a great result for the consumer.

“There is still some way to go before the issue is put to rest and customers are free to reclaim the millions of pounds which they have paid in bank charges over the last six years as the banks involved in the test case may appeal against the decision, but we are confident that sooner or later the consumer will come out on top.

“Those who have been campaigning for change to the bank charge system will feel vindicated by the court’s decision today as a victory for consumer rights”
