Choose a 0% credit card this Valentine’s says Halifax

Valentine spenders should choose a credit card with a 0 per cent interest deal on purchases and balance transfers, before splashing out, according to Halifax.

Today is a day for treating loved ones, and Halifax credit cards has found that the average Valentine’s shopper will spend £41 on flowers and more than £170 on jewellery this year, which is why a credit card with a nought per cent interest deal could relieve some of the financial pressure.

In addition to splashing out on gifts, the Halifax research found that there was an overall uplift on spending around Valentine’s Day last year, including things like city breaks, holidays and dinner.

And, as February 14 is one of the most popular days of the year to get engaged, and average British men expect to spend between a half and one month’s salary on an engagement ring, a nought per cent interest credit card deal could make a real difference.

Commenting, Alan Brindley from Halifax Credit Cards said: “Our research shows that Brits do have big hearts when it comes to Valentine’s Day, but this doesn’t have to mean a broken wallet.

“By choosing a card with a substantial zero per cent deal, Valentine spends needn’t attract any extra interest.”

“The Halifax All-In-One Credit Card is ideal for customers who want to reduce the cost of their spending, reduce the cost of any outstanding balance transfer, or both,” Mr Brindley concluded.
