Fraud danger zones highlighted

18 July 2006
The holiday destinations where Brits could find themselves most at risk of falling victim to credit card fraud have been identified by new research.

A study carried out by Barclaycard revealed that the four worst countries for instances of card fraud on UK-held cards were headed up by Turkey.

Not far behind were France, Spain and the US, with Italy, Ireland and the Netherlands also featuring in the top ten.

The head of fraud at Barclaycard did stress that the high occurrence of card fraud in these nations was due largely to their popularity with holidaymakers from the UK.

However Martin Warwick added: “I’d remind cardholders that taking their card abroad is still safer than carrying cash, as cardholders are not held liable for any losses from fraudulent activity.”
