Nationwide tops credit card poll

11 June 2007
Nationwide has come out on top of uSwitch.com’s annual credit card report for the second year running, as an impressive 94 per cent of its customers expressed satisfaction with the service they receive.

Mike Naylor, personal financial expert at uSwitch.com, praised Nationwide for “their unusually preferential order of repayments and the lack of exchange rate loading fees on its credit card overseas”.

American Express (93 per cent) was pipped into second place, although the credit card provider can console itself in the knowledge that it is the card most people would recommend to someone else to use.

Another popular credit card provider was Morgan Stanley, which came top in no fewer than four categories, including customer support and application process.

However, not all credit cards received such glowing praise, with uSwitch.com finding that one in five customers were unhappy with their provider.

Mr Naylor remarked that “the majority of credit card providers have made moves to recoup the estimated £300 million lost when the OFT [Office of Fair Trading] effectively capped credit card penalty fees at £12 last year”, an inevitable way to upset customers.
