Royal Bank of Scotland points to £194 in Christmas credit card savings

15 December 2004
Shopping with a credit card could save people £194 each this Christmas, by using credit card price protection.

Credit card price protection offers customers the chance to have the difference in price refunded if a shopper sees something they have already bought cheaper in the two months after the purchase.

Royal Bank of Scotland has found that if this discount is used to fund the gap in prices between Christmas and the January sales, the average consumer could save £194.

But research by the bank also found that just four per cent of cardholders have this cover.

Fay Hogg, spokesperson for the Royal Bank of Scotland, commented: “Our research shows that on average people spend £194 more than they need to by shopping before Christmas, yet for only a small cost, for a 90 day trial period you can protect against this eventuality. Surprisingly only four per cent of respondents had this cover.”

All RBS cardholders can have a 90 day credit card price protection trial for £1, however after the trial it costs £18.95 a month.
