BT credit card offers unlimited discounts on phone and broadband bills

17 July 2009 / by Rachael Stiles

The new BT credit card is now offering its customers unlimited discounts on their BT home phone and broadband bills.

Unlike the previous £75 cap, there is now no limit to the amount of money customers can knock off their other BT bills by spending on their credit card, with every £1.50 spent amounting to a one pence reduction on their account.

After consulting customers on what they want from their credit card, BT has made it simpler to earn uncapped rewards from their BT credit card, and has also increased the interest-free periods on balance transfers.

Customers who opt for a balance transfer with their BT credit card, and money transfers, will now pay zero interest on the balance for the first 13 months, and will also not be charged interest on purchases for the first three months.

The customer’s accounts are linked, so each time they use their BT credit card, the discount automatically comes off their BT home phone and broadband bill, so they do not have to do anything to reap the rewards, says BT.

Commenting on the changes, John Petter, managing director of BT Retail, said: “The original BT Credit Card has proved very popular since it launched two years ago and has been the choice of hundreds of thousands of BT customers.”

He believes that the “combination of benefits means that the BT Credit Card can’t be beaten for all-round value.”

The BT credit card is issued by MBNA, one of the UK’s largest credit card issuers; it comes with a typical interest rate of 16.9 per cent, and also offers free fraud protection, online banking, and a 24 hour worldwide customers help and support line.
