British Gas ‘still Britain’s worst’

14 May 2007
Customers have voted British Gas the worst energy provider as its parent company Centrica announces it expects to out-perform its forecasts on the back of strong performance in the first quarter.

Since the first round of British Gas price cuts were announced on February 9th, 900,000 customers have ‘come back’ to British Gas.

But customer satisfaction failed to rise in line with the increase in customer numbers, uSwitch.com claims.

British Gas spokespeople dismissed the findings, saying uSwitch.com had based its ratings on research conducted before the second British Gas price cut was announced in April.

More than half the British Gas customers questioned said they were satisfied, 55 per cent compared to 44 per cent six months ago.

Scottish & Southern Energy was the UK’s most popular provider, with 70 per cent of customers satisfied.

But Scottish Power suffered after delaying the introduction of price cuts for longer than rivals, becoming the only provider to see customer satisfaction levels fall in the survey.

Across the big six providers, the poll showed 60 per cent of customers are satisfied overall – eight per cent more than six months ago, thanks to price cuts across the board.
