Consumers urged to change energy tariffs

07 January 2008 / by None
Following the news that npower has chosen to raise its prices, one expert has suggested that people look to switch to more inexpensive deals.

Paul Schofield, head of utilities at moneysupermarket.com, said that most of npower’s customers will be affected by the “hefty” price increase.

“The best thing customers can do is immediately change to the cheapest available tariff which, in many cases, is British Gas Click Energy 4,” the expert advised.

However, those seeking to fix their energy prices ought to consider Scottish Power, although the least expensive tariffs can vary depending on the amount used and where people live, Mr Schofield added.

A recent report by moneysupermarket.com revealed that the six largest energy providers have amended their existing tariffs or launched new cheaper deals over the last year.

However, the firm noted that 63 per cent of customers are currently on standard tariffs and so could be missing out on potential savings.
