O2 and Sky top the broadband polls in uSwitch report

30 March 2009 / by Rebecca Sargent
O2 and Sky have come top in a broadband customer satisfaction report from uSwitch.com.

The poll of 12,000 broadband customers found that O2 broadband and Sky broadband, both of which are relatively new to the market, came top when it comes to customer satisfaction.

In fact, O2 scooped nine out of 11 awards, with nine out of 10 of its customers saying they were satisfied with the service.

However, not all is good in the broadband market, as overall uSwitch found that 42 per cent of broadband customers have been left unsatisfied by their provider, despite spending a collective total of £2.6billion a year.

The survey covered broadband speed, value for money and customer service. Commenting, Steve Weller, communications expert at uSwitch.com, said: “On average, O2 customers enjoy nearly twice the speeds experienced by customers from some of the larger broadband firms.

“Topped with free customer support and discounts for mobile customers, it well deserves its recognition as the brightest button in the broadband box.”

He added: “Broadband has become such a vital part of people’s lives that, despite the tough economic climate, consumers are willing to pay for a fast speed, reliable connection and good old-fashioned customer service.

“However, the success story of O2 shows that excellent service does not have to cost the earth.”

Highlighting the need to compare the broadband market, Mr Weller added: “The difference in performance between the best and worst companies is now greater than ever, so it’s vital for customers to keep tabs on their situation to make sure that they are getting the best bang for their buck.

“Around six million broadband customers are coming to the end of their contracts. With prices continuing to tumble, moving to a better deal could be a great way to cut the cost of their monthly broadband bill.
