Older people ‘may be living in poverty’

A number of old people living in the UK may be living at or just above the breadline, according to new research.
Charity Age Concern has stated that some pensioners may not be able to afford health costs and social care, with some not having any money to spend on luxuries.
Samuel Heath, spokesperson for the firm, commented that a large number of pensioners are not living the quality of life that they should be.
He also added that the free transport benefits on offer to them are sometimes not enough.
“There are all sorts of health and social care issues where people aren’t well enough so they need more money to get around and getting on buses is not an option for them,” he said.
Currently, the pension age in the UK is 65, although there are plans to increase this in the near future.
